Attorney Profile
Senior Patent Attorney & Founder
Few patent attorneys can claim genuine fluency in both the language of engineering and the language of law. Aziz M. Ahsan bridges those worlds with rare ease, drawing on an aerospace and mechanical engineering foundation to craft intellectual property strategies that are technically precise and legally formidable.
For more than twelve years at IBM Corporation, Mr. Ahsan served as Senior Attorney and Patent Team Leader, managing complex patent portfolios and guiding engineering teams through every stage of invention disclosure, prosecution, and enforcement. His tenure at IBM sharpened a distinctive ability to translate cutting-edge technology into airtight patent claims that withstand scrutiny.
Before and after his years at IBM, Mr. Ahsan built a remarkably broad base of IP experience. He practiced at Kenyon & Kenyon, one of New York City's premier intellectual property firms, where he handled sophisticated patent litigation and prosecution for Fortune 500 clients. Earlier chapters of his career included positions at Union Carbide Corporation, Honeywell, Inc., and the nationally recognized firm Dorsey & Whitney, each adding depth to his command of chemical, mechanical, and electrical patent matters.
Mr. Ahsan's path to the law began in engineering itself. He worked as a marketing engineer at Rosemount Inc. and later as a senior marketing engineer at MTS Systems Corp., both in Minnesota's thriving technology corridor. Those hands-on years in product development and technical marketing gave him an understanding of how inventions move from the lab bench to the marketplace -- insight that continues to sharpen his patent work today.
Driven by a vision of providing both corporate clients and independent inventors with the same caliber of legal counsel once reserved for large firms, Mr. Ahsan founded Ahsan & Associates, PLLC. The firm brings big-firm sophistication to a client-centered practice, ensuring that every patent, trademark, and IP strategy reflects both technical rigor and sound business judgment.
